Stefan Zaremba - Country Manager
The opening of the Polish economy to international competition requires bringing Polish firms into line with the best working standards and practices of companies in the West. One of the key conditions for the success of a company in the Polish market today is to have the skill to select and introduce IT to support its strategic goals, and EDS does it best. EDS, with its global experience, its independence from hardware and software manufacturers, and its wide range of services, is particularly well-placed to assist state and private organizations in increasing their competitiveness through the optimum use of information technology. With more than 130,000 employees worldwide and 2003 revenues of $21,5 billion, EDS was one of the first companies in the world to understand the true need for Corporate Social Responsibility. CSR has been the underlying theme of the EDS philosophy since its founding in 1962 by Ross Perot. In 2003, more than 18,000 EDS employees around the world volunteered a combined 30,000 hours in support of community activities. EDS is the founding sponsor of one of the world’s premier distance learning adventures, the JASON Project, which has reached nearly 13 million students and teachers since 1989. EDS is known for providing service excellence to thousands of clients in need of information technology to help them succeed. The service EDS is able to provide is tied to the extraordinary employees who make their time and talents available to our organization. EDS’ top community priorities are education and bridging the digital divide. In addition to participating in educational initiatives, EDS volunteers worldwide connect with their communities in a variety of other ways. Taking an active role within in communities’ schools is the cornerstone of the EDS Education Outreach program. EDS employees worldwide donate time as mentors, tutors or reading coaches, as well as help with curriculum and career enrichment, staff development, technical consulting and support, and student recognition programs. As school districts squeeze budgets and classes balloon to unprecedented sizes, teachers often find themselves using their own money to buy learning materials. In 1997, EDS initiated the EDS Technology Grant program to help defray costs and encourage teachers’ creative learning solutions. Each year, many EDS teams worldwide sponsor $1,500 grants to help teachers of students ages 6 through 18 buy computer software and hardware, multimedia equipment, CD-ROM libraries, scanners, modems, Internet access, online time, and technical training. Each October, tens of thousands of EDS employees fan out in communities around the globe in a celebration of year-round volunteer service. Since Global Volunteer Day began, 138,000 EDS volunteers in 32 countries and 39 U.S. states, put in 384,000 hours on 2,800 projects to touch the lives of more than 1 billion people. The EDS Foundation was created to support EDS’ philanthropic efforts in communities where our employees live and work around the world. The foundation directs the majority of its funds to programs addressing the digital divide that exists between the rich and the poor. We thank EDS President Stefan Zaremba, and welcome EDS to our Responsibility
